Counselors
The School Counselor's Role
The school counselors at Vista Murrieta High School are advocates who assist students in identifying and achieving academic, career, personal, social, and emotional goals. Counselors promote and support the educational process by helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents while planning for life after high school. Counselors interact not only with students, but also with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies and organizations to provide the best educational environment and opportunities for all students.
The primary role of the school counselor is to:
- Advocate for students
- Monitor and support academic progress
- Support student’s social/emotional development
- Assist with college and career (post-high) planning.
- Provide crisis intervention and case management
- Collaborate with all school personnel to assess students' social/emotional obstacles to academic success.
- Develop/facilitate/coordinate prevention activities and intervention strategies.
