Our Health Office is committed to helping keep your child safe and well at school.  Our main goal is to provide basic first aid and/or medical assistance to students in need, and to help determine whether they will return to class or to go home during their visit to the Health Office.

Please verify that you have updated your current phone numbers and contact information, and include alternative contacts (grandparent, neighbor/friend, sibling over the age of 18, etc.) who are available to pick your child up from school if they become ill.  Students with a valid driver's license may be allowed to drive themselves home at the school nurse's discretion and with verbal parent permission.  Please make sure that we are able to reach you.  Alternate contacts who you authorize to pick up to pick up your child in case of illness or injury cannot give permission for students to drive themselves home.

Lack of contact information creates a situation whereby if students are too ill or injured to return to class, and we cannot reach anyone, we are forced to call paramedics (at parent's expense).  So, please remember to update those contact phone numbers, especially cell phone numbers, so that we can reach you.  We appreciate your support with this.

All students entering 7th-12th grades must meet age and grade level vaccine requirements of the California School Immunization Law.  Visit Shots for School for more information or contact the school nurse.

Ill and Injured Policy
To minimize out of class time and exposure to possible illness, health office visits are limited to no more than 15 minutes, after which the student returns to class or the parent is contacted.

Students are generally returned to class unless they have a significant injury, have a fever above 100F, or are experiencing symptoms requiring isolation from class. Parents will be contacted for students needing to go home.

MVUSD Health Information & Services

Medication Policy

If your student requires medication to be taken at school, we must follow strict District and State guidelines.  Those guidelines state that all medication, including over the counter medication, MUST have written parent and physician permission on file with the school health office annually.  Additionally, all medications, including over the counter medications, must be kept in the health office - except for asthma inhalers, epi-pens and diabetic supplies.  These self-carry items still require all of the same forms but can be carried on the student at the parent's and physician's request.

Health Conditions/Concerns
At the beginning of each school year, parents complete a Health History Form online that has a place for parents to include any health concern regarding their student.  This is extremely important information to have, especially in the event of an emergency.  If your student takes any medication at home, this is also important information for us to know.  Please feel free to contact the Health Office and as for the school nurse if you need to discuss any concerns regarding your student's medical condition.

If your child has diabetes and needs to take insulin or test their blood sugar while at school, we require the parent to submit diabetic school orders signed by their physician.  Please contact your Health Office for information regarding diabetes management and supplies at school.

Access for Wheelchairs/Crutches
All elevators on campus require a key to operate, and keys can be checked out in the Health Office.  A doctor's note is required to issue a key to any student.

Immunizations
Your Health Office will keep you updated if your student immunizations are not up-to-date or complete.
All students must meet County and State requirements for immunizations.

Immunizations may be obtained from your family medical provider, many local pharmacies, or Riverside County Department of Public Health low-cost clinics at (888) 246-1215 or (800) 720-9553.
